On October 6th, 2020, an online presentation of the expert document "The concept of Ukraine's foreign policy" took place. The project was implemented by the Representation of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine in cooperation with the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and UA: Ukraine Analytica.
The experts began working on the document in 2019, with the geographical directions of Ukraine's foreign policy as the main focus. In 2020, the emphasis was on thematic areas: economy, energy, security and international organizations. 10 round tables were held over two years. A large number of specialists from almost all the leading think tanks and research institutions in Ukraine took part in the discussions. As a result, the authors of the document became more than 35 leading Ukrainian experts on security, defense, foreign policy, economy, and international relations.
The main goal of the project was to develop a primary expert document that would contain key areas of Ukraine's foreign policy, and which could later become the basis for other documents of the strategic level and importance for Ukraine.
On October 6th, 2020, the document was discussed with the expert community and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. At the event, Serhiy Korsunsky, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, gave an introduction to the concept. Yevhenia Gaber, Deputy Director of the DAU, Marcel Röthig, Resident Representative in Ukraine, Friedrich Ebert Foundation, and Hanna Shelest, Editor-in-Chief the of UA: Ukraine Analytica presented the concept to the public. Eduard Fesko, Deputy Director-General of the Political Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, also took part in the discussion. On the eve of the event, the document was also presented to the members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
